#locs: some eye candy for the ladies not watching the game…
I have to be honest right now.
I seriously hated men with dreds. I really did, and I’m pretty sure that it was because I was ignorant of what dreds can really mean to some and the process that it takes to get to that final point.
Now this may make me a hypocrite, because now that I have locs myself, I am obsessed with them and anyone that has them. I think men with locs are some of the sexiest men I have seen so far.
And this is NOT to take away from my clean cut fellas, or my fro’d out fellas, or my bald headed fellas. But I think that I was too caught up in the hype of what is CONSIDERED acceptable or professional in this society that I never realised that this society is a reflection of those that hold power in this country, and those that hold power are, let’s face it, white. They do not look like me, a black woman, or him, a black male.
Now granted we do have a black president, but last I checked there is a system of checks and balances and the president can’t do jack squat without the approval of congress, who if you haven’t noticed, is overwhelmingly white. And there for those with power are white here, and we the black minority are at their mercy of what they deem proper. So having an understanding of all that we can be was lost.
And that is what I have been learning. That this is a journey to not only better understand and love the versatility of myself as a black woman, but also versatiliy of the black man and that there is so much more to us than meets the eye. We are beautiful, and you, black man in whatever form you’re in, are gorgeous to me.
This is both a love letter and an apology. I’m sorry for taking the word of others, whom I did not know, over yours. I’m am sorry for my learned prejudice over you because you didn’t fit into what I was told the status quo was.
Black is Beautiful
and you are beautiful in whatever form you come in.
